B-Negative (Digital Equivalent)

n digital workflows, 'B-negative' refers to the non-circled or 'non-preferred' takes that were not the director's first choice on set. In the film era, this footage was often not printed to save money, requiring a special order to be accessed. As editor Mary Jo Markey notes, the 'tremendous advantage' of the digital age is having these takes instantly available in the bin, allowing editors to easily find alternative readings or moments without the cost and delay of printing film.
