Character-First Story Hierarchy
storytelling framework articulated by editor Pietro Scalia where editorial decisions are prioritized in a specific order: Character, Story, and Structure. First, choices must reinforce and build the character. Second, they must serve the essential cause-and-effect of the story. Finally, the structure can be manipulated (e.g., moving a flashback) to best serve the first two priorities.
