Composing as Extended Improvisation
model of editing that views the assembly of a scene or sequence as an iterative, improvisational dialogue with the unscripted material. It rejects the simple execution of a pre-formed plan, instead favoring a responsive process where the footage itself, as a 'cognition-amplifier,' generates thought and suggests structure within a loosely prepared framework. From a cognitive perspective, this is the process of shaping material within a loosely prepared structure, where the act of composing is an iterative, cognitively extended improvisation with the footage itself.
