Halftone Effect

visual effect that simulates the printing process of converting a continuous-tone image into a pattern of dots (or other shapes) of varying size. In video editing and motion graphics, this is not used for printing but as a stylistic choice to texturize footage, evoke a sense of archival or mediated reality (like a newspaper photo or comic book), or unify disparate visual sources under a single aesthetic. It deliberately degrades the image to add a layer of conceptual meaning.
