Non-Representational Cinematography
cinematic philosophy, most closely associated with Dziga Vertov, that aims to move beyond simply representing reality. It uses the tools of filmmaking—particularly editing—to create a purely formal, rhythmic, and abstract experience that organizes visual phenomena to influence consciousness directly. Akin to Suprematist painting, it de-emphasizes narrative and psychological realism in favor of creating a new, uniquely cinematic reality built from the relationships between shots.
