Procrustean Method

scene-trimming technique, named by Walter Murch, characterized by aggressive and decisive cutting to solve a major structural problem or meet a strict time constraint. Named after the mythical Greek figure Procrustes who forced his victims to fit a bed by stretching or cutting their limbs, this method involves hacking out large sections of a scene or film without gradual refinement. It is a tool of necessity, used when subtle changes are insufficient.
