Split Edit (J-Cut and L-Cut)

fundamental editing technique where the audio and video from adjacent clips do not cut at the same time. This involves either the audio from the incoming clip starting before the video (a J-cut) or the audio from the outgoing clip continuing over the new video (an L-cut). Split edits are essential for creating smooth, natural-sounding dialogue scenes and avoiding the jarring, mechanical feel of straight cuts.
