Flexible Film Base

he material innovation, primarily using celluloid, that served as the physical prerequisite for motion picture editing. By replacing rigid glass plates with a transparent, pliable strip capable of holding photographic emulsion, it enabled continuous recording and, crucially, the physical act of cutting and splicing. Without a flexible base, there is no film strip to cut, and therefore, no editing as we know it.
