Floater Scene

term used by editor Lee Smith to describe a scene whose placement in the script is not fixed, allowing it to be moved during the edit to solve structural problems. It can be repositioned to bring a cause closer to its effect, clarify a plot point that has become obscure due to distance from its setup, or improve overall pacing.
