Ken Burns Effect

technique of adding motion to static images (photographs, documents) by slowly zooming and panning across them. Named for documentary filmmaker Ken Burns who popularized its use, the effect creates a sense of life and narrative progression from still material. It directs the viewer's eye and allows the editor to control the pacing and focus of information revealed within a single, static frame.
