Light Pen Editing

n early method of human-computer interaction for non-linear editing systems, such as the CMX 600. Editors used a light-sensitive stylus, or 'pencil light,' to point directly at options and clips on a CRT monitor, allowing them to play, mark, and arrange shots. This direct, physical interaction with the screen was a precursor to the mouse-driven graphical user interfaces that would later become standard.
