Slip and Slide Editing
also: slip edit · slide edit · slip/slide · trim modes
wo complementary NLE trim operations that modify a clip's relationship to its content or position without changing the overall timeline duration. A slip edit changes which portion of the source media is visible (moving the content window within the clip) while keeping the clip's timeline position fixed. A slide edit moves a clip's timeline position while keeping its content fixed, adjusting the adjacent clips' out and in points to compensate. Both are essential for fine-tuning edits without disrupting the surrounding sequence.
notes
Slip and slide are the secret weapons of fast editing. Once you internalize these, you stop doing the delete-and-reinsert dance that beginners do. A slip is asking 'is this the right MOMENT from the source?' and a slide is asking 'is this the right POSITION in the sequence?' Two completely different questions, one key.
