Three-Point Editing
also: 3-point edit · in-out-in editing
fundamental NLE workflow method where the editor defines three of four possible edit points (source IN, source OUT, timeline IN, timeline OUT) and lets the system calculate the fourth. This creates precise, intentional edits by forcing the editor to make three deliberate decisions about what material to use and where to place it. The technique dates back to linear tape-to-tape editing but remains the conceptual foundation of all professional non-linear editing workflows.
notes
This is editing 101 but I still see experienced editors who don't think in three points. It's the foundation of intentional editing — you're always making three decisions, the fourth is a gift.
