Change List

also: change note · conform change list · recut list

document or data file that precisely describes the differences between two versions of an edit, used to update downstream departments when changes occur after a turnover. Change lists specify which shots were added, removed, repositioned, or retrimmed, with exact timecode references for both the old and new versions. They are essential for maintaining synchronization between editorial, VFX, color, and sound when post-lock changes occur. Tools like Change List Creator (for Avid) or Hiero's conforming tools can automatically generate change lists by comparing two sequences. A well-formatted change list allows a colorist to update their session in minutes rather than re-conforming from scratch, and lets VFX vendors know which of their in-progress shots have been cut, trimmed, or repositioned.
