CMX Systems
he CMX systems were a series of pioneering non-linear editing (NLE) systems developed in the early 1970s by a joint venture of CBS and Memorex. They represented a paradigm shift from linear, tape-to-tape editing to a random-access, computer-assisted workflow, storing footage on magnetic disk packs. This allowed editors to experiment with cuts and sequences non-destructively for the first time, generating an Edit Decision List (EDL) to conform the master tape or film negative.
