CMX 600
he world's first commercial non-linear video editing system, introduced in 1971. It utilized a DEC PDP-11 computer and custom disk storage to allow editors to randomly access footage and assemble a rough cut, outputting an Edit Decision List (EDL) for final assembly on tape. Its prohibitive cost and radical workflow represented the painful, expensive, but revolutionary birth of digital editing.
