Contextual Pace Shift
he phenomenon where the perceived rhythm and effectiveness of an individual scene changes once it is placed in the context of the full film. A scene that feels perfectly paced in isolation may feel too slow, too fast, or emotionally redundant when viewed between its preceding and succeeding scenes. This requires editors to constantly re-evaluate and adjust scene-level edits based on the film's macro-pacing. This can also manifest as a 'tension-recovery cycle,' where moments of relaxation are intentionally inserted between escalating sequences to increase the overall dynamic range and impact of the tension.
